2024 SOAR Grantees:
Souls to the Polls - Souls to the Polls Wisconsin is a non-profit, non-partisan voter education and advocacy organization. They believe that voting is a collective power – a tool to build stronger, safer, and more supportive communities. Since their founding in 2013, they have united Milwaukee faith leaders and their congregations to strengthen the voting power of the Black community. They believe a strong voting bloc is key to pressing state and local leaders on issues like affordable housing, education, economic development, gun violence, and governmental transparency. They are building a bloc of engaged community members to their mission and to bring thousands Souls to the Polls.
Massachusetts Medication Abortion Access Project - The Massachusetts Medication Abortion Access Project (The MAP) uses an asynchronous telemedicine platform to provide medication abortion care to abortion seekers throughout the United States. They offer medication abortion pills for immediate use as well as for future use. The MAP believes abortion care should be available and accessible to everyone.
Tomorrow We Vote - Tomorrow We Vote is a civic engagement non-profit focused on registering first-time young voters primarily but not limited to Black, Brown, Indigenous and marginalized communities and informing them of their power through their vote. TWV is a non-partisan, issue-focused organization headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona. Informing the youth about civic engagement, their voting rights, issues impacting their communities, and removing the stigma tied to engaging in the democratic process are the focus points of TWV. The youth vote is tomorrow’s progressive representation and Tomorrow We Vote wants to help them acknowledge their voting power.
Louisiana Abortion Fund - The Louisiana Abortion Fund is a community fund that assists women in overcoming the economic and geographic barriers erected to prevent them from accessing abortion care. By providing low-barrier financial support for abortions and support for travel and childcare, they “are investing in their community’s liberation”. They work to center Black people, Indigenous communities, people of color, queer folks, and immigrants, because “we know that when the most marginalized among us are free, we will all be free.”
2023 SOAR Grantees:
Plan C- Plan C is a public health creative campaign, started in 2015 by a small team of veteran public health advocates, researchers, social justice activists and digital strategists. Plan C transforms access to abortion in the US by normalizing the self-directed option of abortion pills by mail. They conduct research about how people are accessing abortion pills in the US, build collaborative relationships with health care providers, reproductive health and justice organizations, and technology innovators, call for universal access to abortion pills, de-stigmatizing and normalizing the modern option of self-managing an abortion at home, and lay the groundwork for over-the-counter access to abortion pills.
You Can Vote - You Can Vote’s programs increase civic engagement among groups that have historically been targeted for voter suppression in NC. They educate individuals and groups about government, prepare them to cast their ballots, and empower them to get involved and advocate for the changes they want to see in their communities. They educate, register, and empower voters to participate in upcoming elections, ensure that their registrations are up-to-date, distribute trusted and accurate information about NC voting requirements, and connect individual and community values to items on their ballots.
Mississippi Reproductive Freedom Fund - MRFF believes in access to full reproductive health care that includes abortion as a human right and an essential part of reproductive justice. They recognize and affirm that the right to parent, not to parent, have access to full reproductive health care and education and to raise children in safe environments with full support and your needs met are ALL basic human rights. They offer financial assistance and practical support to persons seeking abortion as well as free emergency contraception, community based comprehensive sex education, and fight for reproductive justice in Mississippi.
Miscarriage and Abortion Hotline - The Miscarriage and Abortion Hotline provides support and information to people who are going through an abortion or miscarriage. Staffed by experienced healthcare professionals, the hotline offers expert advice on various aspects of miscarriage and abortion, ensuring individuals receive accurate information and compassionate support throughout their journey. They provide private, free, and caring support regardless of a woman’s location, identity, or circumstances.
Texas Rising - Texas Rising builds the power of young people in their communities and at the ballot box. They organize and build power with young people of color in a multi-issue, intersectional social justice framework. They focus on voter registration and turnout of young Texans, organizing on college campuses, youth leadership development and trainings, grassroots and digital organizing and issue advocacy
Access Reproductive Southeast - ARS provides funding and logistical support to ensure Southerners receive safe and compassionate reproductive care including abortion services. Through education and leadership development they build power in communities of color to abolish stigma and restore dignity and justice.
2022 SOAR Grantees:
Fund Texas Choice - A non-profit organization that pays for Texans’ travel to abortion clinics. They were formed in response to the passage of Texas House Bill 2, which closed nearly 75% of over 40 Texan clinics in 2013 and 2014. The closures were primarily in rural and low-income areas of the state, necessitating cost-prohibitive, time-wasting, and geographically-difficult travel for groups already facing financial obstacles to abortion.
Engage Miami - An organization whose mission is to take down barriers and build bridges to equity in civic power through voter activation, civic education, leadership development, and organizing around local issues that matter to young people in Miami.
Wisconsin Native Vote - WNV works to combat historic voter disenfranchisement and contemporary barriers to voting by educating voters, registering people to vote, and working to improve policies that impact Native communities’ access to the polls.
2021 SOAR Grantees:
MassUndocuFund - An organization founded in March, 2020 as a direct response to the Covid-19 pandemic to provide direct assistance to undocumented people in Massachusetts who have lost jobs and livelihoods but are not eligible for federal aid.
Bread of Life - A nonprofit, non-denominational faith-based organization serving the communities north of Boston. They help families, individuals and senior citizens who struggle to put food on the table. They have experienced a surge of need for their services due to Covid-19 and the ensuing financial crisis of many of their neighbors.
Al Otro Lado - A bi-national advocacy and legal aid organization serving migrants, refugees and deportees in the United States and Mexico. They are the primary nonprofit working with families who have been separated at the border. They travel extensively through Central America looking for parents and helping them reunite with their children.
Justice in Motion - JIM protects migrant rights by ensuring justice across borders. They have created a Defender Network of human rights lawyers and nonprofit organizations throughout Mexico and Central America who partner with U.S. lawyers on concrete legal cases for migrants, including parents separated from their children at the U.S. border, migrant workers exploited by U.S. employers, and children seeking safety from harm.
2020 SOAR Grantees:
Florida Rights Restoration Coalition - A grassroots organization committed to protecting the voting rights of formerly incarcerated people. In 2020, they will be working to fairly implement Florida's new law that allows 1.2 million returning citizens to vote. Their efforts include a fund to remove fines and fees that might interfere with citizens ability to vote. Location: Florida
Mi Familia Vota Education Fund - A civic engagement organization that unites Latino, immigrant, and allied communities to promote social and economic justice through citizenship workshops, voter registration, and voter participation. Location: Florida
PAIR Project - PAIR provides free immigration services to indigent asylum seekers and detained immigrants in all the Massachusetts ICE prisons and recruits pro-bono representation from over 50 law firms in the state. Location: Massachusetts
Spread the Vote - STV helps people obtain the identification they need to vote in strict voter-id states, as well as creating easy-to-use election guides, and digital and real-world educational tools for these voters. Locations: Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin.
2019 SOAR Grantees:
Black Voters Matter Capacity Building Institute - BVM’s goal is to increase power in marginalized, predominantly Black communities, by working across the south (and now Pennsylvania and Michigan) to register Black voters, get out the vote, and support and train activists. BVM aims to challenge political systems to recognize that Black voters matter not only on election day, but on the 364 days between election days as well.
Boston Immigrant and Justice Accompaniment Network - Over 1400 people were detained by ICE at South Bay, Boston in the past 12 months, placing it in the top 20% of all immigration prisons in the country. BIJAN provides bond funds, legal support and accompaniment to reunite families and return our neighbors to the communities that need and love them.
Families for Justice as Healing - Families for Justice as Healing is an organization led by women who are now or formerly incarcerated and women with loved ones who are locked up. FJH works to end the incarceration of women through organizing, advocacy, participatory defense, and creating and sustaining alternatives to incarceration.
Mothers in Charge (Philadelphia) - Founded by women who have endured the murder of a family member, Mothers in Charge is a violence prevention, education and intervention-based organization, which advocates and supports youth, young adults, families and community organizations affected by violence.
Spread the Vote - Spread The Vote aims to close the gap between registered voters and voter turnout by obtaining IDs, educating, and empowering voters. STV believes that voting is the sacred right of every American, and every American should be able to exercise it.
2017 - 2018 SOAR Grantees:
North Dakota WIN Fund - The Women In Need Fund assists women seeking abortion and reproductive healthcare services in North Dakota.
RAICES - The Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services provides free and low cost legal services to underserved immigrant children, families and refugees in Texas.
ASAP - The Asylum Seekers Advocacy Project prevents wrongful deportations by connecting refugee families to community support and emergency legal aid.
Muslim Women Resource Center - MWRC strives to help the Women Muslim immigrant population in Chicago integrate into the US by providing them with appropriate job skills, access to benefits and help attaining citizenship.
Tahirih Justice Center - The Tahirih Justice Center provides a broad range of direct legal services, policy advocacy and training and education to protect immigrant women and girls fleeing violence.
Community Change, Inc - Since 1968, Community Change, Inc. has served as a community for white people and thier multicultural allies to come together to learn about systemic racism and to fight against it.
Rematriation - Rematriation Magazine is an online, rematriating storytelling platform for Native American women.
Southerners on New Ground - SONG is a home for LGBTQ liberation across all lines of race, class, abilities, age, culture gender and sexuality in the South.

We will continue focusing on identifying organizations that do critical work, that resist this administration with courage, and that can benefit from our financial support and efforts to broaden awareness.
